The Sport That Taught Me How to Lose

Table Tennis for me, once meant restriction, expectations, and dread. I recalled moaning every time my mom dragged me up the stairs as we entered the court. I recalled crying and shouting how I dislike the sport and that the coach is being too strict. I recalled saying that I want to quit after I was “humiliated” by losing to a kid younger than me. I never knew that, a few years later, when I was asked what the meaning of this sport is to me that I will answer: it teaches me how to lose.

Table Tennis is never an individual sport to me. I know that both on court and off court, we always got each other

My doubles partner, my co-captain, my upperclassman best friend, my therapist: these names all were created when we met at my first training

First trophy we had earned the year I first became captain. It was extra hard as the pressure of being captain forced me to stop being the "crybaby" on the team

Table Tennis enabled me to create precious relationships across schools. Without this sport, I will never know these amazing players. Most importantly, these amazing human beings

My second year on the team. We won CHAMPIONS!

We really made history. First in school record-Concordia Girls (and Boys)

Personally the best year with the best team. Two reliable captain moms, supportive team, many travel tournaments, and thousands of dates and late-night hang outs

Extremely hard to let the two captains that I have respected so dearly graduate. Burden of carrying the responsibility had fallen on me

We lost Champions due to my final loss as captain.

"We could have never reached the fight for champs if you haven't win all your previous matches"

With my teammates and coach crowding beside me, I know that I have found family

Another year of seeing seniors graduate. It was extremely hard to see the people that have been with me for three years on the team left. It feels unfamiliar and wierd but I know that the memories we have together will be always remembered. To another year!

Thank you table tennis—I hope to see you in college <3
