The rhythm that taught me to let go
My relationship with dance has been rather on-and-off. I first tried Latin dance in kindergarten, though I barely remember what I learned. In primary school, I joined ballet, but I never really enjoyed it, and by middle school, I had stopped dancing altogether. When I entered high school, however, my sister’s love for hip-hop and K-pop choreography drew me back in. As a K-pop fan myself, learning choreography I already watched over and over felt much more natural and exciting than ballet ever had. I started by following along for fun, gradually learning more routines on my own. I’m still far from being a great dancer, but dancing has become one of the simplest ways for me to reset. After a long day, putting on a song and moving to it feels refreshing, freeing, and strangely stress-relieving.
