The experience that redefinied neurodiversity

Meet Our Partners!

This is the cause that I have been noticing and being part of for the longest time. Ever since getting the chance to interact with the autism community in seventh grade, I became attratced to the fact that they are normal human beings being unvoluntarily deprived of a normal life. I hope that the world will be able to accept them and view them not as abnormals.

Indigo Workshop is a Shanghai nonprofit that supports young and adult people with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities through vocational training, life-skills education, arts, and community activities. Founded in 2009, the organization provides opportunities for participants to learn practical skills, develop greater independence, and engage with the wider community.

Through our partnership with Indigo, we have organized service visits where students spend time at the workshop and teach English classes to its participants. We have also supported Indigo’s participants by selling their handmade crafts at our Christmas Bazaars and returning the proceeds to the organization. Through these activities, our collaboration connects student volunteers with Indigo’s community while creating opportunities for participants to share their work and skills with a wider audience.

Blue Harbor Foundation supports autistic youth and their families by providing life-skills training, creative activities, and opportunities for social integration. Through activities such as cooking, handicrafts, and community engagement, the organization helps participants build communication and emotional-regulation skills, while creating opportunities to develop confidence and greater independence.

Through our collaboration with Blue Harbor, we bring support from our school community through our annual Autism Awareness Day events, creating opportunities for students to learn, participate, and show their support. We also help sell crafts and other goods made by Blue Harbor’s participants at our Christmas Bazaars, with the proceeds returned to the organization. In this way, our partnership connects awareness with direct support while giving participants’ work a wider audience.

World Autism Awareness Day 2024: We put up a board within HS and encouraged students to write encouraging notes. The board later was sent to the organization and received by the autism community

One of the long-term events that we did is making videos and tutorials on real-life skills. Because the autism community has certain challenges and struggles to fully adapt to life, these videos became crucial in helping them

World Autism Awareness Day 2025: Blue Harbor visited the ES classrooms, teaching the students about neurodiversity and what autism is. Most importantly, the message to send out is that being different is not bad; it is unique. Students reinforced their understanding by doing worksheets related to the topic in an interactive way

World Autism Awareness Day 2026: One part of the event is promoting the cause through a themed dress day (wear blue) within the high school. By purchasing the pin that reads "We Wear Blue for Autism Awareness" and wearing it that day, we spread the message well and made it memorable.

World Autism Awareness Day 2026: Second part of the event is visiting EC students, teaching them about the cause and inviting them to complete a painting toghether unsing their hands. The painting shown utillizes the colors of "white, yellow, and blue" which are common colors in representation of the autism community. Additionally, it forms the "infinity" sign, which is representing the neurodiversity and limitless potential of the community.

The painting was delivered to the foundation, where it serves to the autism community as a way of support. In return, the foundation gifted us a certificate of recognition for our long-term collaborations.

Blue Harbor collaborated with Indigo, where we provided english lessons to the autism people. We teach them basic words that will be useful in real-life contexts.

Singing ABC Song together!

Annually, we participated in our school's Christmas Bazaar where we made cookies and received crafts made by the autism people from the two organizations, where profits were given back to them.
